Internet Meme Analysis:

Our Internet meme is called “A Gleek Freaks Out” where a girl is trying to find her favourite show Glee on the television, but did not know it was canceled that week in exchange for a Republican Debate. For our meme we were inspired by, Wafflepwn’s “Greatest Freak Out Ever” where a boy is outraged because his mom canceled his World of Warcraft account. The boy is screaming and looks like he is having an exorcism. At the beginning of the video the insane boy’s younger brother has the video camera, and tells the audience what is happening. He then places the camera in his older brother’s room to capture the rest of the overly dramatic episode.
We decided to mimic this technique of having a person tell the audience ahead of time what is happening because it makes the footage seem more spontaneous and real.

Additionally, it prepares the audience for what they are about to see. We chose to relate our Internet meme to this YouTube video because in our group’s opinion we felt that people like to watch videos that come at other people’s expense, such as over the top emotions; like anger, sadness and pain. So staging a scene where a girl gets extremely upset because her favourite show Glee is not on, would be seen as funny to others, because normally no one should get that mad over a show being postponed to a later date.

Another example of a freak out that inspired us to make our video was the famous "Black Man angry at Toys R Us."
We also specifically choose the show “Glee” because of its increasing popularity among audiences and the corresponding increase in related online videos. By mentioning “Glee” in the title we are more likely to get a larger amounts of hits.
To augment our viewership, we created a remix of our original YouTube video. We have found that generally, once parodies and remixes begin being created, viewers look for the original video to see why the parodies and remixes are so funny.
Our group uploaded the two videos to YouTube and Break, several times. The original video received 401 views on YouTube, and 97 views on Break. The remixed video received 88 views on YouTube and 64 views on Break. On YouTube, 5 users clicked the like option on the original video.
